Oyo launches ASCAB branch, supports ASUU

PRESS STATEMENT Sunday May 10, 2020 The  Alliance on Surviving  COVID-19 and Beyond, (ASCAB), Oyo State Chapter has expressed full support for striking members of the Academic Staff Union of  Universities, (ASUU). The newly launched Oyo State branch in a statement on Sunday expressed support and solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) campaign  for reforms in the education sector. The group in a statement signed by the newly elected Chairman,  Bayo Titilola-Sodo and Interim Secretary, Prof Adenike Ogunshe described  the ASUU campaign as the  "struggle against the ruinous and insensitive ruling elite’s continuous attacks on public education."  The group drew similarity between  the  way public health have been brought on its knees and the floundering fortunes of University education in Nigeria. COVID 19 AND GOVERNMENTS’ RESPONSES

On constitutionality or otherwise of FGN’s imposed lockdowns affecting  FCT, Abuja,  Lagos and Ogun States By virtue of Section 299 of the Constitution, the imposition of lockdown imposed by the Federal Government on the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja ,  is constitutional to the extent that all the legislative and executive powers vested in the State House of Assembly and Governor of each State of the Federation are vested in the National Assembly an d  the President of the Federation as far as the FCT, Abuja, is concerned.
